This decision was arrived at due to the increasing numbers of  Omicron Variant Covid 19 cases within the U.K and the current restrictions put in place by the devolved Governments regarding  participation and spectator numbers permitted at indoor events.

It is the intention of the BIIBC to reschedule all events for October 2022 and a full revised calendar of events will be published as soon as possible.

Age Limit Increased

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic which resulted in no competitions or international matches taking place during the 2020 -2021 season it was agreed to increase the “age” related internationals to Under 19 instead of Under 18 and Under 26 instead of Under 25. This will ensure that no player would miss out on the opportunity to represent their Country because they may have passed the age limit. This will apply for 1 year only.

Venues and dates for the International Series were agreed as follows:

Ladies Junior Under 26 International Series Newport IBC, Wales 12th & 13th February 2022
Men’s Junior Under 26 International Series Ffrith IBC, Wales 19th & 20th February 2022

Warner Leisure Hotels End Sponsorship.

It is with regret that we report that Warner’s Leisure Hotels have ended their sponsorship of the BIIBC Senior Over 50’s International Series after 22 years, this is due to a combination of restructuring within the organisation and need to utilise their bowls halls for alternative usage to accommodate social distancing etc. The BIIBC would like to thank Warner’s for the support they have given to the BIIBC and bowls over this period.

It was agreed for this coming season not to hold the Senior Over 50’s International Series, however it is hoped to reintroduce the series when  the full financial impact of Covid 19 is known.

Life Membership Awarded

Life Membership of the BIIBC was bestowed on Maurice Mayes (England) for services to the BIIBC, Maurice will be presented with his Life Membership Certificate at a suitable venue in the coming season.

Alison Merrien MBE Steps Down as Secretary.

After nine years as Secretary of Guernsey IBC Alison Merrien MBE has decided to step down from the position. She is succeeded by Catherin Snell , and we wish Catherin every success.

21 January 2021 - BIIBC STATEMENT

Following a meeting of the BIIBC Executive Committee held via zoom on Tuesday 19th January 2021 the following decisions were made:

“The Covid 19 pandemic is still having a major effect on all parts of the U.K. preventing any bowls being played apart from the C. Islands. Therefore National Associations are unable to complete their National Championships, the consequence being that the  BIIBC Championships postponed from March 2021 to October 2021 are now cancelled.

The complete BIIBC Calendar for the 2020 – 2021 season has been moved forward to the 2021 – 2022 season and the age events namely the Under 18 and Under 25 have been increased for one year only to Under 19 & Under 26, this is designed to give those players who may have missed out on the opportunity to represent their Country.

The Over 50’s Senior International Series is to be confirmed by our sponsor Warner’s Leisure Hotels , hopefully this will be held at Hayling Island, England between 21st – 24th January 2022.

A further review of all events will take place towards the end of March

4 September 2020.  Season 2020/2021  -  BIIBC Statement

Following a meeting of the BIIBC Council on Tuesday 1st September, it was unanimously agreed that due to the current Covid 19 restrictions in place regarding the number of people permitted into stadiums and issues with localized "lock downs" that it was impracticable to run our events in accordance with the published calendar of events for the 2020/2021 season.

A revised calendar of events has been published on this website and the BIIBC Council will meet again in mid November to review this calendar of events.

The BIIBC apologizes for any inconvenience caused and recommend that anyone considering booking hotels and or transport to attend any of  these events waits until after our November meeting.

The safety of our players, officers and supporters remain our highest priority and no decision will be taken that puts this at risk.

4 August 2020. BIIBC Alternative Calendar

Following a virtual meeting of Member National Authorities, the BIIBC have put in place an alternative calendar of events should Covid 19 prevent the original programme of events from taking place. A further meeting will be held on 1st September to review the options open to the BIIBC.

At all  times the safety of our players, officers and supporters will be uppermost in our minds before any decisions are made.

David Phillips

Chief Executive Officer

The Under 18s Championship have been postponed as a consequence of the uncertainty caused by the Covid 19 pandemic. The BIIBC are working on a new calendar of events and it is hoped that this event will be re-arranged for some time in April 2021.

More information on this event will be posted when it becomes available.

Keep safe everyone.

29 May 2020. DENNIS PETRIE.

It is with deep sadness that we have to report the death of long time SIBA Competitions Secretary, Dennis Petrie.

Dennis had been an integral part of the SIBA for the best part of forty years and served as Competitions Secretary from 1986 till giving up the post through ill health in September 2019.

Dennis was well known to all members of the BIIBC and followers around the world. Real Time Scoring was originally developed for the BIIBC by Dennis, and he and wife Doreen were always to be seen inputting data at the BIIBC events. The BIIBC owe Dennis much thanks for his masses of work over the years on their behalf.

Dennis leaves behind his devoted wife Doreen who has also had her health battles in recent years and our thoughts go to her at this sad time.

Following the recent advice given by the U.K. Government and the devolved Governments of Northern Ireland, Scotland & Wales in relation to Covid 19, the BIIBC are in the process of making contingency plans in the event of the International Series not being able to take place as planned at Ballybrakes IBC, Northern Ireland on 10th & 11th October 2020.

A further assessment will be made following each respective Governments review of Covid 19 which is due in early June.

Uppermost in our minds when reaching a decision will be the safety of all players, officials and spectators involved in the event.

David Phillips

BIIBC Chief Executive Officer

14th May 2020.

The BIIBC is currently conducting a survey involving past and present International Players about possible changes that could be made to the International Series.

If you are an International player and have have represented your Country in any of the last 4 International Series, namely Belfast, Paisley, Falcon or Llanelli you should shortly receive a questionnaire from your National Secretary.

We would be most grateful if you can complete the questionnaire and return it to SIBA Secretary Gordon Woods by 12th June 2020.

If you do not receive the questionnaire please contact me or Gordon and arrangements will be made to send one to you.

A similar exercise will be conducted involving supporters later in the year.

Thanking you for your support
